Profile
Dr. Macartney is an Economist at OnPoint. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from University College London. In the course of his studies he was awarded the W.M. Gorman scholarship and the Advanced Institute of Management scholarship. During his Ph.D. program he worked at London’s leading economic research institute, the Institute for Fiscal Studies. He has taught economics classes at University College London and has lectured on competition at the University of Cambridge and Oxford University. He has presented his research at the European Policy on Intellectual Property Conference, the European Economics Association Congress, the Royal Economic Society Conference and the London School of Economics. His research on competition has been published in The Economic Journal. He has also refereed academic articles for The Economics of Transition, Oxford Economic Papers and Fiscal Studies.
In the course of his litigation consulting experience Dr. Macartney has analyzed issues relating to anti-competitive behavior, including price-fixing, economic damages due to breach of contract, class certification, patent infringement, commercial success and breach of franchise agreements. Dr. Macartney has analyzed a wide variety of industrial sectors including rail freight, ready-mixed concrete, the dairy industry, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, mining, petrochemicals, real estate, fashion, food and agriculture. He has produced expert reports related to issues of class certification, price-fixing and patent infringement, as well as a variety of complex damage analyses, and has testified as an expert witness in a price-fixing case.
