Dr. Balson is a specialist in financial risk. As an executive consultant, Dr. Balson has advised financial executives for 28 years in economic theory, strategic analysis, and financial risk management. Working in areas such as finance, electronics, consumer products, the environment, utilities, and the chemical industry, he has conducted strategic analyses that led to the pursuit of high-value investment opportunities. As an inventor, Dr. Balson received a patent for a new real-time value-at-risk approach for credit and collateral management. He also conceived a new structured-finance approach to finance feature films. Dr. Balson has specialized knowledge in the following fields: litigation support; decision analysis; cost-benefit analysis; financial risk management; credit and default analysis; financial analysis; analysis of research and development options; dynamic systems modeling; microeconomics; real options; group decision processes; environmental risk analysis; game theory; welfare economics; influence diagrams; Bayesian and classical statistics; probability elicitation; value elicitation and modeling; trading and risk management; strategic risk management; option exchange technology; IPO market strategies; securities fraud; derivative valuation; value-at-risk; energy markets; risk-capital evaluation; and corporate acquisition strategies. Dr. Balson is a Director for OTC Online, LLC and was Chief Risk Officer of Opt4 Derivatives, Inc., which developed a unique facility for the electronic exchange of structured derivatives contracts. Previously, at Charles Rivers Associates, he was an officer in charge of economic analyses supporting testimony in civil litigation that involved financial and risk management, intellectual property damages, antitrust liability and damages, fraud and securities damages, and lost profits. Dr. Balson has also been on the Board and Executive Management of several consulting firms, for which he was instrumental in growing revenue and creating shareholder value.
